Knights Of Columbus has been extremely generous and supportive of so many in need. This includes those with impairments, delivering meals on wheels, and hosting fundraising events like Golf outings.

This particular event hosted by Purcell Council Knights of Columbus is very special. Hosting their 29th year of Measure Up Golf Tournament charity event for youths with special needs from Three Rivers School district, Margaret Rost School, and St. Williams Autism program.

This charity event has raised over $275,000.00 in our community. This is so special to see so much being devoted to our community, especially when it comes to those with special needs. Folks with special needs play a vital role in our communities to bring us together, learn more about each other, and form a bond that will change anyone who meets them.

The Ohio Department of Education has reported an alarming rate of 235,160 students in Public schools in Ohio alone with special needs. That averages out to be a whopping 14.8% of students in Ohio Public schools. If you look at The United States national ratings, that is 5,789,884 children, or 12.9%. It is truly no wonder why we see Knights of Columbus stepping up to the green and getting a hole in one with their amazing compassion for their community.

The 29th Annual Measure Up Golf Tournament also provides time spent with the students with special needs. The golf outing is open to the public so everyone is welcome to join and be a part of something special. “Traditionally we have between eighty to ninety golfers. More are always welcome.” Steve Klaserner of Purcell Council Knights of Columbus. Who went on to mention, “The post-golf banquet is also open to the public. Generally many non-golfers join us for the evening activity.”

The charity event will be held at Grand Oak Golf Club, in Harrison, Ohio and the reception banquet is being held at the Purcell Banquet Center on Glenmore Ave. Cost for lunch, golf, and banquet is $110.00 per person. The price for dinner only is $25.00.

The day begins for the students at 11:00 am. They will participate in putting, chipping, driving, sand trap, and water hazard activity. At noon the students and golfers have lunch together in the club house at Grand Oak Golf Club. Following lunch the golfers assemble for a traditional round of shotgun start - scramble golf.

Following the round of golf, the participants, students, and many non-golfers gather for the reception which begins at 6:30 PM. On the menu for this evening is chicken and roast beef catered by Hilvers Catering.

At the banquet there will be raffles, baskets, silent actions, live auctions, and golf prizes for the winners. Each student who participated at the golf course will receive an accomplishment trophy. All of the proceeds from this charity golf outing are disbursed back to local special needs organizations, Margaret Rost Schools,Three Rivers Schools, and St. Williams Autism Program.

It’s moments like this when our community comes together to make a difference. Sometimes putting ourselves in other’s shoes and spending time with them, can teach us so much about life. Why not spread the word and come out Friday, May 3rd, and make some memories. Making a difference in our community is a chip, and a putt away, as The Knights of Columbus strike again.
