Cheviot Puts Trash In Its Place

Councilwoman Gail Griffin

On Saturday, October 12th, residents and public officials from the City of Cheviot participated in a citywide clean up starting at The Cheviot Memorial Building and ending at Harvest Home Park. Temperatures that morning were in the mid to upper forty’s but that didn’t deter residents of all ages volunteering their time to freshen up their community.

Councilwoman Gail Griffin was the lead organizer working closely with the city administration office. Councilwoman Kathleen Zech, and residents volunteered to set-up the food service for participants with The Honorable Mayor, Samuel Keller providing lunch from N.Y.P.D Pizza.

The idea to hold a “City Clean Up Day” was proposed by a local resident at this years WestSide Market. “I agreed it would be a great opportunity for the community to show their pride in the city,” said Gail Griffin.

Comments throughout the day, and after the event by participants were all very positive, and the enthusiasm carried over onto social media. “I had the opportunity to meet new people and give back to my community” Said April Holland, a city resident.

No other similar events are scheduled for the remainder of this year but there is interest hosting similar events through the city a couple times a year.
